Der Sommer ging vorüber - Grethe & Jørgen Ingmann

When Grethe & Jørgen Ingmann won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1963 with 'Dansevise', it was the first time a Scandinavian country went away with the prize. The duo recorded two versions of their song in other languages: 'I loved you' in English and this one, 'Der Sommer ging vorüber' in German.

It's interesting that only the German version came with a colour picture sleeve. The B-side is a cover of the song 'The end of the world', written by Sylvia Dee and Arthur Kent and originally recorded by Skeeter Davis.

I loved you (Dansevise) - Grethe og Jørgen Ingmann

The classic song Dansevise won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1963. I was always fond of the song, and very glad to find a good copy almost ten years ago. What I didn't know was that there is also an English version of the song. I discovered this just a week ago, when I was ordering singles from Germany. I always search for Eurovision when I do some online ordering and suddenly this one popped up.

'I loved you' is the English version of 'Dansevise' and it is every bit as beautiful as the original - the only difference being that the lyrics of this version are more accessible to those who don't speak Danish.

Found: Recordsale, Germany, received November 3, 2018
Cost: 5 euro
Tracks: 'I loved you (Dansevise)' / 'My little boy'

Dansevise - Grethe og Jørgen Ingmann

'Dansevise' will always be one of the most eccentric and beautiful winning songs in the history of the Eurovision Song Contest as far as I'm concerned. Grethe and Jørgen Ingmann performed the song in 1963, representing Denmark. Grethe and Jørgen met in 1955 and got married the next year. After winning the contest, the couple got divorced in 1975. Grethe passed away on August 18, 1990.

'Dansevise' has been covered by various artists including Eurovision celebrities like Corry Brokken, Birthe Kjaer and Lys Assia.
